SUV/Crossover Consultancy

DESCRIPTION: Sport Utility and Crossover Utility Vehicles (SUV/XSUV's) continue to be a segment generating strong sales and solid consideration even in the face of media criticism and high fuel prices. Consideration is broadly based across age groups and other demographic and attitudinal categories. Nearly every automaker now offers an SUV in the U.S. market place. Recent market dynamics exerting pressure on larger truck-based SUVs have changed the complexion of the SUV universe. Previously hot selling truck-based SUVs have had a hard time generating historically strong sales while softer car-based products are strengthening. What will the future bring?

The Luxury SUV segment continues to grow strongly while Large SUV sales have softened. Successful car-based SUVs/crossovers such as the Nissan Murano, Infiniti FX and Toyota Highlander have contributed to the dramatic change of the SUV landscape, and car-based SUV sales are expected to overtake truck-based SUV sales soon. SUVs built on unit-body car platforms have become all the rage, providing better interior packaging and vehicle dynamics than their truck-based counterparts. As the segment continues to evolve, many new Compact and Mid-Size SUVs are also pushing the boundaries of style, performance and utility. There seems to be an SUV for any taste these days.

Because of the size of the SUV category, the SUV Consultancy has been segmented into two volumes:

Vol. I - Large and Luxury SUVs
Vol. II - Compact and Mid-Size SUVs
